We hope your summer has been a restful one!  We are gearing up for another great semester.  This fall we will host four ignites over the course of the semester: August 30, September 27, October 25, and November 29.  All of them take place on Monday, from 7:30 – 9:30pm.  So mark your calendars!  Have an idea for a theme for the semester?  Email us and let us know.  We’d love to hear what the Lord is putting on your heart.

Wow. It’s hard to believe another semester of Ignite.242 has come to a close. This past Monday, with about 175 UVA students, students from several other campuses around VA, teenagers, families, retirees, and everywhere in between, we processed from St. Thomas Aquinas, across the UVA Grounds, up Mr. Jefferson’s Lawn, and to the University Chapel, led by our Lord in the Holy Eucharist.

Many stories have begun to come up about conversations had along the way with curious bystanders, and the beginnings of conversions by God’s grace. One particular young man approached a group toward the back, saying “I’m a fallen away Catholic, but this is really moving.” Several people simply joined the procession along the way. And many in the procession expressed a profound sense of the movement of the Holy Spirit as we walked.

Let’s pray together that this procession would not be simply an event that happened and would be cool to do again, but rather a lifestyle that we would begin to live out as we move about the Grounds: in our conversations, our relationships, our choices- every aspect of our lives. Let’s pray that He would continue His work of transformation and renewal on our campus and in our city, and that He would begin with our own hearts.

Amen.

We hope you can join us for our next ignite on Monday April 19th, 2010.  The night will begin at 7:30pm, and although we’ve had a poor track record pulling this off in the past, we PROMISE we will begin at 7:30pm this time.  Our speaker for this night will be Lisa Epperson.  Lisa works for LifeTeen and is an excellent speaker.  She will be wrapping up our semester theme on the verse 1 Peter 2:9 –

But you are “a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people of his own, so that you may announce the praises” of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light. -1 Peter 2:9

See you there!

We’ve adjusted our Ignite schedule to give you a chance to attend the Lenten Reconciliation Service at Saint Thomas Aquinas.  We continue to explore 1 Peter 2:9 on MONDAY, MARCH 15, 2010 at 7:30 pm.  We welcome Father Jack Peterson, Y.A. who is the assistant campus minister at Marymount University in Northern Virginia.  See you then and bring a friend!

Where is it?

The location of ignite has also changed. It will now be held at St Thomas Aquinas in St Thomas Hall. Click Here for directions.

Who can go?

Everyone! Although ignite was started as an outreach to Catholic UVA students, it has since grown to include families and youth from all over Charlottesville.

Can I bring a friend?

Yes! Please feel free to bring as many people as you'd like. People from high school age to adults attend every event, although we try to focus the talks towards a college aged audience.

What is Adoration?

As Catholic Christians, we believe that at every Mass ordinary bread and wine become the body, blood, soul, and divinity of Jesus Christ. Eucharistic Adoration is simply recognizing God's presence and adoring Him.
